Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Namasthe
Dear XXXX,
Being a parent myself, I can understand your concern and apprehensions.
Let me first reassure you, there is no cause for concern, things can be taken care off.
Thanks for providing the history and reports, the mystery of persistent Microscopic blood in stools and mucous can definitely be sorted out.
All the reports show persistent Blood and mucous in stools, Before embarking on
Endoscopy, I would still like to consider the following medical/surgical possibility as cause for the presentation
1. Milk allergy/Allergic Proctocolitis: This is more likely especially if the baby is not on exclusive breast feeding. As your baby is 2 months old, I would like to know if the baby is on exclusive breast feeding or top feed is also being given.
2. Anal fissure: I assume it has been ruled out as cause of symptoms by examination of anal opening
3. Meckel's Diverticulum:
Chronic bleeding from meckel's diverticulum( its a outpouching of
small intestine ), inflammation of which can produce blood an mucous in stool
4. Malrotation and Intestinal Duplication Cyst: I would suggest you to discuss these possibility with your Physician, preferably Pediatric Surgeon.
Before embarking in on Endoscopy, I would suggest you to discuss the above findings with your
Pediatrician, I would also suggest following investigation
1. Stool examination for Eosinophils: More number is likely to be due to allergic Proctitis(Inflammation of
rectum) possibily due to milk protein allergy
2. Meckel's Nuclear Scan
3. Repeat
Ultrasound scan to rule out malrotation and duplication
4. SOS Upper gastrointestinal Contrast scan
In the meantime if there is no distension of abdomen, baby is accepting feeds well, weiht gain is adequate then there seems to be no cause for much concern, things can be investigated and taken care off.
Do write to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take Care
Best Regards
