What Causes Blood Discharge From The Mouth?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jan 2017
Question: Hello,
In the last two weeks I have noticed blood forming in my mouth. I do not cough it up. I feel fine. It seems to be draining down from behind my upper jaw, on the right side, from behind my back upper teeth. I just went to the dentist but they did not find anything wrong or abnormal. It seems to release or bleed about once a day now and is always about the same amount of very red blood. No bubbles in blood. Once I spit it out and rinse my mouth the incident is over. This has happened now at least 5 times. I have no headaches, temperature or any other problems that I can feel. Looking for advise. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Needs complete blood count and Clotting profile

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history you have shared, it seems like mucosa bleed and since it's unprovoked it needs to be evaluated by complete blood count to look for platelets counts as these help to keep blood clot or to keep it inside vessels.

Also a detailed clotting profile may also be needed including Pt, aptt and bleeding time if needed. Meanwhile keep gargles with XXXXXXX warm water and get it reviewed by an ENT specialist to rule out any local cause of bleeding.

Vitamin K and transamenic acid orally may be needed to stop bleeding.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
