Brief Answer:
Drying of the nose during the night is the cause of blood tinged phlegm...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. If it repeats again, you can draft a mail to the customer care service and request them to help you out, they would definitely oblige.

After going through the inputs given by you, I am of the opinion that, you could be having a dry nose or nasal block during the night. Dryness causes mucosa of the nose to crack and bleed. The normal secretions of the nose thus get mixed with the tiny amounts of capillary ooze. When you wake up in the morning, the phlegm accumulated in the backside of the throat irritates the throat, making you to cough. Thus, you see the blood tinged phlegm. On repeated coughing, the tiny engorged blood vessels present over the pharyngeal wall ruptures leading to specks of dark blood in the coughed out secretions.

Raw area in the mucosa of the nose causes repeated bleeding even with mild straining. Hence, I would request you to refrain from nose picking and using tissues to clean the nose.

Do not worry! This is perfectly normal and many individuals do experience similar situation. I would suggest you to carry on with the measures mentioned in my previous post. If you do not get better with those measures, you should consult your ENT specialist and get an endoscopy done to identify the bleeders and cauterize it.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. I wish you good health and good luck.
