Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I woke up during the night to use the bathroom, I spit a couple times and noticed there was some blood in my spit. It cleared up since. Checked my BP and it is in the normal range. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Please, these things happen. Monitor first!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what you experienced and all the inconveniences this must have caused you. Blood in spit that happens only once does not really signify anything bad. If it happens over and over, that is when probing to understand the cause is necessary.

Because this is the first time that you have observed this, I recommend that you stay calm and monitor. If it repeats itself, then we would start with simple things by examining the mouth to look for possible explanations which could be wounds, fragile gums, etc.

I would like to hear from you whether this happens again or not. From there, we would probe further if need be. I wish you well.

Hi and thanks for this follow up.

What matters moist now is to put an eye on it. I am confident it wouldn't recur but should it be, please let me know so that we can address it. Dryness that causes minor wounds on eh body surfaces can lead to cracks but I cannot conclude on that at this time.

Keep me posted. Always here for you.
