What Causes Blood In Stool?
Question: Age 63, good physical condition - went for a 70 mile bike ride then 2 days later thought I had food poisoning with usual side effects? Now for 2 days have had blood (albeit bright red not dark) in my stool/attempted bowel movements. No pain. Is this related to bike ride or food poisoning? Emergency room?
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. Blood in stools with recent travelling on bike might be related to food poisoning and gastroenteritis. Get the stool examined to rule out infections like dysentery. I would also suggest rectal examination to rule out any other cause like hemorrhoids etc.
Take some fibrous diet, adequate fluids and imodium if bowel movements are loose. Go to your doctor and let them assess.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Thank you for your reply. First night (Tuesday night) had full reaction to symptoms of food poisoning. No bowel movement since. Ate nothing on Wednesday and very light on Thursday. Feeling okay today but sensing constipation. Some blood nothing more. Any particular foods to try/avoid? About to travel to Europe on Sunday ... any Meds to take with me?

Symptoms are likely suggestive of food poisoning. If blood stool is repeated get an anorectal exam, as constipation might have injured the anus or caused a hemorrhoidal cushion to engorge. Eat small frequent meal, take more fiber and fluids, use yogurt and peppermint, avoid alcohol, beer, soda, beverages, tea, coffee , spicy foods, processed canned foods etc.
I hope it helps.
