What Causes Blood In Urine After Discontinuing Flomax?

Question: Went on vacation, and somehow lost Flomax, and forgot about it. Started to bleed when urinating and it stopped stop to bleed after first dose .What is going on?

I appreciate your concern

Blood in urine also referred to as hematuria needs work up. Complete blood count, urinalysis, urine culture sensitivity testing, renal function tests, ultrasound involving the renal system are some of the main investigations required for such a presentation. Blood thinners , if in use should be stopped immediately.

Cystoscopy may be needed if the above investigations don't pin point the cause. A urologist should be consulted in this regard.

Tamsulosin (Flomax) decreases bladder neck and urethral resistance. It does not stop bleeding / hematuria.
