Question: Had kidney stone. It passed. At that time had blood in my urine. Came back to md care six days later and still had medium blood in the urine. What does that mean? What should I do? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Consideration

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It is possible that the kidney stone caused some irritation within your urinary tract which could contribute to some continued bleeding.

I would suggest a repeat urinalysis in about 2 to 3 weeks. If you continue to have evidence of blood in the urine then it would be reasonable for you to see a urologist to investigate this further.

Inflammation of the bladder or kidney can sometimes cause blood in the urine. Sometimes imaging tests including CT scans and special x-rays are done to evaluate for blood in the urine.

Occasionally a urologist will also use a tiny camera to look inside the bladder to see if there are any issues going on which would also cause a positive urine screen for blood.

Again I would recommend a repeat urinalysis in about 2-3 weeks and for the discussion with your doctor there after.

Thanks again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
