What Causes Blood In Urine Along With Frequent Urinary Urgency?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Apr 2017
Question: Just saw blood in my urine. I am 73, with advanced PC, mets in lymph and bone. In a Ph1 clinical trial at UCSF. I have frequency and urgency in urination with a weak stream. Taking terazosin . Feel fine otherwise. I think is urinary tract infection as past urine tests show "threads" in urine. It could be prostate or bladder or even kidney infection. Usually urination is accompanied with pain in left lower rib cage, area of kidney. What non-invasive test could determine this without cytology or catheter?

Brief Answer:
The bleeding is from cancerous tissue itself .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

You are known to have advanced cancer of the prostate with bony metastasis and lymph node invlovement and getting blood in urine since very recently .

The bleeding in such cases is usually from the rupture of one of the tiny veins in cancerous tissue itself and not due to infection either in kidney or bladder .

Consult your Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Trans Rectal Ultrasound or MRI of Prostate .

Bleeding in such cases usually gets resolved spontaneously .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
