What Causes Blood In Urine While Suffering From Stage 4 Brain Cancer?
My father was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. It has spread throughout his body....liver, lungs, spine and brain. He has been under hospice care at his home for 3 weeks. Tonight, when we were changing his undergarment, there was some blood in his urine. After wiping him down with a cloth we saw more blood, however, not much. I know his body is shutting down and dying.
Should I be concerned, because of his condition, of the blood in his urine?
Thank you! XXXXXXX
Intervention should be based on prognosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern and am sorry for your distress
Blood in urine indicates a urinary tract infection or renal failure. It can also be a result of stone or tumor in the urinary tract. Urinalysis , ultrasound abdomen / pelvis and renal function tests would give us conclusive evidence for the cause of blood in urine. If its an infection , antibiotics can be administered. If its renal failure then your doctor may discuss not intervening much with you depending upon GCS score and bleak prognosis of the patient. Any intervention that causes more distress to the patient should be avoided at this stage, in my opinion.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
