What Causes Blood In Urine?

Question: My 2 year old has had trace to 1+ blood in her urine with a fever that comes and goes for 2 months. The Dr says watch and wait, but is don't agree? Could a blood test tell us anything and what test do I ask for?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to the HCM.

Urinary Tract infection may be the possible cause of such illness.
Urine routine examination along with culture and sensitivity to be repeated with intervals so that to grow some bacteria in the urine and the exact type infection is properly identified.

Blood investigations like COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT, ESR, CRP, blood culture etc., to be done to exclude any bacterial infection.

Ultra sound KUB region should also be undertaken to rule out any growth /anatomical defect in the urinary tract.

Blood pressure of the baby, if possible also to be evaluated
Plenty of water/liquids to be given regularly.
Wash the vulval region thoroughly after passing stool and urine.
