What Causes Blood In Urine?
6/8/16 I had a UA which showed 7 HPF for blood in urine.
6/28/16 I had a pelvic ultrasound which was negative.
Two days ago I was in the ER for something different (anxiety, etc)
UA was done as well that day which showed 9 HPF for blood in urine. There is no visible blood. I still have all my female parts.
A kidney function was also done at ER which was fine. Should I be concerned? What do you think it could be?
Some possible causes of microscopic urinary bleeding.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HealthcareMagic,
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
That amount of blood in the urine is more then it should be, but it is microscopic, which means not visible by eye.
The cause of it should be investigated though.
One of the most common cause is kidney stones. While moving they hit the walls of the kidney canals and cause a minor bleeding. But, those are ruled out by the ultrasound.
Another possible cause would be taking the urine sample not clean, which might have been contaminated by the external urinary tract. In a woman post menopausal that is very common, because there are not lubricating secretions.
I would not be concerned about something serious though at this point.
So, my suggestion is to do another urine analysis, when you don't have other problems, make sure to clean the parts well before taking the sample, and putting in the container the middle part of the urine (not the first part of the urine because generally it is contaminated).
If not normal, then you need to investigate this by doing further testing which would check for the cause of that microscopic bleeding.
Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.
