What Causes Blood In Vomit?
No worries, ER if so much blood or persistence
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
I understand this can be very disturbing. However, it would be of interest to have an idea of the amount/quantity of blood you might have vomited. Also, knowing if the whole substance vomited was totally stained with blood, or you just had streaks of blood could be of interest.
It is not rare to experience small quantities of blood after excessive vomiting. This is generally caused by mild wounds at the level of the junction between the stomach and esophagus, generally called the XXXXXXX Weiss Syndrome.
With very small quantities of blood, the course is almost always non eventful and normal. In case the amount of blood was really important, take antacids like Maalox (R) and Omeprazole tablets should be sufficient. You really need not be so bothered. IN case the blood could be estimated as getting to a litre, it might be urgent visiting the emergency room. If not, in case only streaks of blood, no worries, antacids like maalox and proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole should be sufficient. Thanks and kind regards.
