Brief Answer:
It could be a burst vein or an arterial blockage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,
It seems like a vein which would have burst spontaneously. This leads to bluish discoloration with mild swelling and pain. This would be the most likely cause.
Another reason could be arterial problems. If you have pain on walking around then it could be arterial blockage. You can see your GP and ask for a Color Doppler of the arteries and veins of the affected limb. Or you could see a Vascular Surgeon who could examine you and advice accordingly. Do not worry, either way it can be treated but first thing would be to reach a diagnosis.
Therefore, see the Doctor concerned and get it examined as it is extremely difficult for me to say without examining it.
Do let me know if I can be of any further help on this issue.
Take care,
