What Causes Body Clills Along With Weakness In Hands And Feet?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Nov 2014
Question: Hi,
It started three weeks back, I started feeling chills at office (in an air conditioned environment, with cold hands and feet) and also weakness in hands and feet and a general feeling of malaise. I got a bit anxious. This continued off and on. From last week onwards, I am had mild headache at times and then a tingly sensation at the back of the head that moved around and sometimes felt a stiff neck. I also feel mild numbness in my face. Also, I had a small mouth ulcer (not much painful) and I find some fluttering in a nerve or two in the legs. The last I tested , I am mildly hypothyroid with TSH of 8.9 and normal T4 (i am on 25 mg eltroxin). Other than that I had no other problem. I am extremely anxious and suspect it might even be anxiousness causing it. I have ordered tests for vitamin b12, cbc, thyroid and folic acid and I am awaiting the results.

Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your medical details, and agree with you that your symptoms could be related to anxiety.

Eltroxin dose is fine for mild hypothyroidism that you have.

Please let me know the blood reports, once ready.

No further action is needed as of now.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Hi few details which I left out. The chills I mentioned above did not have any accompanying fever. I have a slight tingling sensation (not numbness) on touch on the side of a finger in my left hand. Hope its nothing serious. I am attaching a body checkup report which I did two months back for the time being. I will update the report for my latest test by tomorrow or day after morning.

Brief Answer:
These are not serious issues.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back and sending the old blood test reports.

Tingling and shivering are minor issues and they would subside.

In that, triglycerides (a type of cholesterol) are high, for which you need to restrict fatty food intake and do more exercises.

TSH is high and you are already on treatment.

Best wishes,

Hello Doctor,
I have uploaded my latest reports.. all values seem to be now in range. It appears that anxiety is causing the symptoms I am having.
And yes I have started exercising and have cut down on meat consumption.
Also, I would like to inform you about the headache I am having. Its mostly tingling in the back of my head or stiff neck or mild headache in the forehead but they are not occuring together.. i.e. it is moving around. The mornings are better and the mild forehead pain starts mostly in the afternoon or evening. Also, I am having a feeling of mild twiching in arms and legs and cold feet (probably due to anxiety as well). Hope I shouldn't be worried about a tumor. I am not having any nausea or vomitting tendency or any sensory problems.

Brief Answer:
Good to know that blood reports are normal.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I am glad to know that your blood reports are within normal limits now.

Yes, I agree that your symptoms are due to anxiety.

Headaches are related to muscle tension headaches. I also agree that your symptoms are not suggestive of brain tumours.

Best wishes,

HI Doctor, thanks a lot for your advice. One last question. Would you advice any medication for the anxiety as these physical symptoms of anxiety are making things worse. Also, under what kind of symptoms should I be worried about a tumor. thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
You may take Clonazepam for anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

You may take clonazepam tablets for reducing anxiety.

Regarding brain tumor, you should watch for symptoms such as severe headache, double vision, vomiting in morning, weakness of one arm or leg, etc.
