What Causes Boils On Underarms And Pubic Area?
Question: What causes boils underarm and abdominal pubic area?any treatment suggested?
Brief Answer:
They could be Fungal and Bacterial. See a Dermatologist
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Boils on underarms and pubic area can be caused by fungal and/or bacterial infections commonly. Sometimes superficial rashes are formed due to fungal infection and secondary bacterial infection supervenes over it. I usually advice strict hygeinic control and multi antibiotic creams like Tripoderm and Quadriderm along with oral antibiotics like Augmentin and Tinidazole.
But it would be preferable to see a Dermatologist first or upload photos of the boils so we can have a better idea of what we are dealing with.
Do let us know if we can help with any other queries.
Take care.

A blood test of March 2015, showed Arsenic value of 8.56 ug/l against normal range of <5.00 ug/l . Is it possible that boils or as suggested online, 'hidradenitis suppurattiva ' is caused by this elevated Arsenic?
Is Doxy-1 L-DR Forte , Doxycycline capsules effective for treatment of boils?
A visit to a dermatologist will be undertaken shortly!
Thank you Doctor Rishi!

Brief Answer:
Doxycycline is ok. But see a Dermatologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
Arsenic is unlikely to be the cause for the problem. however, you can tell your Dermatologist the same when you see him/ her. Hidradenitis suppurativa can be due to many other causes.
Doxycycline can be effective. You can start taking it but take it for at least two weeks. Also, you should have anti acid medicines while having Doxycycline. I usually advice Cap Omeprazole 20mg twice daily half an hour before meals.
Do see your Dermatologist as he would be the best person to advice about the further management.
Take care and feel free to ask any more queries if required.

Hi Doctor XXXXXXX
In two days most boils have subsided. Doxycycline seems to work, and will
continue for a few more days!
The tablet was called DOXY-1 L DR FORTE, and two per day was taken as
suggested by my physician.
A dermatologist visit is still due though if it recurs, I definitely will!
Thanks Dr XXXXXXX
The Arsenic in blood test is still a mystery!

Brief Answer:
Continue medicines for 10 days.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
This is very good news that the boils are subsiding. I suggest you have the medicines for a total of 7 to 10days. But they are very common to recur. So please keep the area dry at all times. The commonest cause is blocking of pores due to sweat or sebum.
The raised Arsenic level is not understood. I suggest you repeat the test after two to three weeks to know whether it is decreasing or not. It could be from environmental exposure through drinking water or consuming foods with accidental arsenic poisoning. But repeat the test after three weeks and if it is elevated you will need drugs called chelators like dimercaprol later.
