What Causes Breathing Difficulties During Physical Activities?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hi there, I'm 44 and in decent shape. I ran a marathon 2 months ago in 4 hours. What I don't understand is why I have such a hard time breathing anytime I'm going up hill or playing a sport like racquetball. My younger brother has had a triple bypass as has my 80 yr old father. Any ideas?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
i read your query and understood your concerns.

What you are experiencing is called dyspnea on physical activities, which is a common finding in patients with heart disease including ischemic heart disease (coronary arteries blockage) or heart failure.

If you were my patient i would recommend to do the following examinations to find out what is causing your symptom:
- blood work
- ecg
- chest x ray
- cardiac echo
- stress test

If all the above examinations will result normal, your symptoms aren't heart related and may be related to anxious problems.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
