What Causes Breathlessness And Reddish Eyes Post Alcohol Consumption?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
This happen due to defect in enzyme
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
The symptoms which you mentioned occur due to accumulation of acetaldehyde a metabolic bymproduct of alcohol. In high amount this aldehyde causes flushing, shortness of breath, dizziness, hypotension, sweating and lot more symptoms
AQcetaldehyde forms in all of us but soon after it is converted to non toxic substances and majority of people do not feel these symptoms even after taking large amount of alcohol. Th enzyme responsible for this reaction is acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. If there is deficiency of this enzyme aldehyde accumulates in body and causes all these symptoms.
The deficiency can be genetic one or due to some medications. Common culprit include cephalosporin group of antibiotics, diabetes medications and metronidazole or cough syrups. If you are taking any medicine avoid taking alcohol at any cost.
In case you are not taking any likely culprit medication the problem is due to genes and is more common in Asian race in compare to westerners. You can test the level of enzyme (ADH) in large hospitals in metro cities as facility in small places is not available.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks for reverting back to me.
I like to inform you that in this condition prevention is only cure.
You can avoid eithr essential medications or alcohol.
Yes cipralex is associated with this reaction and alcohol to be completely avoided while taking cipralex.
There is no medicine for the condition and as mentioned above you need to stop alcohol.
I hope this is clear.

Yes you are correct, genetic issue starts from day one
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up and ew information.
In view of the new information it can be concluded that it is new to cipralex or some other medication if you are taking.
Again the treatment remains same. Either stop alcohol or ipralex. I hope you will understand that cipralex is more important and less harmful than alcohol.
Thanks
