What Causes Breathlessness While Climbing Stairs?

Question: I noticed I am getting out of breath from walking up stairs or other simple tasks. I thought it just because I'm obese (245lbs male, 5'11"). I tried to exercise and go running today and after 10 minutes felt dizzy and light headed. I'm worried I might have a more serious health problem perhaps with my heart. What the difference between being just out of shape (not accustomed to exercise) and having a genuine health or heart problem? I'm getting worried.
Brief Answer:
Following advice.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
What you are experiencing may be a sign for cardiac issues especially heart arteries blockage (cardiac angina) and heart failure.
If the discomfort and dyspnea increase in intensity or become worse you should go to ER, otherwise you should schedule a cardiologist appointment.
If you were my patient I would recommend to do the following examinations to find out what is causing your symptoms:
- blood work
- ecg
- cardiac echo
- stress test
- chest xray
- abdominal ultrasound
-
Hope this will be of help!
