What Causes Brief Blackouts While On Prozac And Clonazepam?

Question: I am having mini-black outs that last only seconds. I have changed medicines from effexor 150mg to Fluoexetine or prozac 40 mg. and also I was put on Clonacepam for sleep and retless leg. Could any fo these changes cause these symptoms?

There is a known side effect, among others, of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), such as changes in vision, such as darkening of vision or blurry vision, also there is a side effect of various reactions of thinking, such as some-time thinking black-out. I would like to reassure you that every decision in medicine is made after a careful measurement of benefits versus the risks. These side effects are drug class side effects. On the other hand, the doctor that recommended this treatment, clearly made his/her decision regarding your condition. So, if you suffer from mood swings, this a class of mood stabilizers and, thus, these side effects are acceptable. I would recommend you not to stand up briskly, from a sitting or lying position. My opinion is that the change in drugs causes these side reactions or effects and, also, that you should continue your treatment regimen as suggested, although some acceptable side effects may appear.

I have just weaned off latuda, could be a reason for these mini-blaCKOUTS.

Weaning off Latuda generally does not cause blackouts, at least when it is titred down by gradually lowering the dosage. This drug, also, has its side effects, and blurry vision is one of them. No known cases of blackouts, whatsoever. I would recommend you, just to be "in the safe" a visit at the ophthalmologist (eye doctor), to evaluate whether this is a primary process you are suffering from.
