What Causes Bronchitis, High Fever And Chest Congestion?
Question: Hello,
Three weeks ago I got a scratchy throat, which turned into a cold, and VERY quickly turned into bronchitis, which I have had before, last time 2 years ago. I had a VERY high fever, 103.6, and the fevers went on for 5 days. I figured it was viral, and the tight burning chest started to break up, but the fever would not go away and I was feeling worse, PLUS this aggravated my otherwise well-managed asthma. Finally couldn't take it and went to the doctor. He felt it was bacterial, and put me on Zithromicin (Zpack). 24 hours later ... MUCH better. Fever left, and I was on the mend. I think I pushed it, though, because I took a trip that I should have put off, and I had to use my inhaler A LOT. Well, it's been nearly 2 weeks since the Zpack, and I still have a bit of a rattly wheeze if I exhale deeply. My energy level is back to normal; I am not coughing much, and don't cough at all at night; but this little lingering wheeze ... is this normal? Today I only used the inhaler once, and the wheeze is less. (I am also on flovent.) Do you think this is just residual from how sick I was? I do note some improvement day by day, maybe I am just impatient. I am 48, normal weight, otherwise very robust health, lots of energy, healthy eating and exercise habits. Former smoker ... off and on since 20's, many months and even YEARS of NOT smoking throughout, and never more than a few per day. Thanks!
Brief Answer:
you should also take a bronchodilator.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.
After reading your post, I would like to advise that you should also take a bronchodilator inhaler like that contains Levosalbutamol (Flovent contains steroid).
You should also take an antihistamine like Fexofenadine 120 mg or cetrizine 10mg once a day.
Steam inhalation and chest physiotherapy will help to expell out any sputum present in the airway.
I hope this is helpful to you.
If you have any further query, I will be happy to help.
Regards. Thanks.
