What Causes Brown Discharge Instead Of Period While Taking Regestrone?
Question: Hi,
My husband and I are trying to have a baby.My cycle is about 33-35 days.But last month I only had brown discharge for about 2days instead of the regular blood flow(29th july to 31st). My gynaec advised me to take regestrone 5mg twice a day for 5 days to do a follicular study.I started taking it on 11th Aug.I still have not got my period yet and we had intercourse in between as well.Doc,how long does it take to get my period after taking regestrone and is there any chance of pregnancy?

Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
In my opinion you took regesterone too soon without looking for the reason for only a brown discharge instead of period.
Just do a urine pregnancy test first and see for results.
In case positive get an ultrasound done and in case negative wait for another week for your periods and if you still don't get them then get an ultrasound done.
I have a strong suspicion that you are already pregnant.
Do the test and share the result with me as soon ad possible.

Regesterone can cause male like changes in a female fetus but 5 day intake is very to cause that so just relax and do the pregnancy test.

Doc,I took a urine preg test this morning and it's negative.I forgot to mention to you that I have PCOD.can this cause no period even after regestrone?or is it because I took the test early as I suppose my ovulation(if that happens) would be somewhere between 14th Aug-21st Aug.I had done beta HCG test last month since I did not have proper period and it was way below the count.Hence the gynaec advised me to take regestrone followed by Siphene from the 2nd day of my period till 5th day and then do a follicular study on the 8th day.Please advise.

Hello mam, PCOD patients definitely bleed after regesterone so that is not the issue but may be you ovulation ovulated late this time and thus regesterone was taken a little early that desired.
So wait for a week, chances of pregnancy are less but still repeat a urine test in case ypu dont bleed after a full week from now.
Till then take rest.
