What Causes Brown Spotting Prior To Period?
Question: Hi am 43. Have a child 3 years old. Took glycomet 500 twice for about a week as i have put on lot of weight. Earlier i took 750. Then stopped as gynac said to try and exercise. No diabetes. Now I see brown spotting 10 days before periods with no sign of actual periods starting. Wondering.... Can someone guide pls. I take thyronom 12.5.
Brief Answer:
Ovulation bleeding
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, Welcome to HCM,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Brown spotting 10-14 days before the periods can be due to ovulation bleeding and such bleeding is scanty and for short duration.
If there is no other such episode in a menstrual cycle, then there is nothing to worry.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX for your reply. Feel reassured. However, want to share some more information for your benefit n guidance.
Here is the sequence of things which will best help you guide me better regarding the current situation.
1. used to take glycomet 250 = 3 times 2nd half of pregnancy
2. continued but stopped in the middle as gynac said to try and exercise to lose weight.
3. slowly i regained weight. now i am in australia last one year. i have my supply of glycomet with me. thought of restarting to give my metabolism a boost and then to discontinue once my exercise rhythm picked up. (took about 1000 for about 6 days i think).
4. other than bloating (not when i increased intake of water) i have had regular periods. (roughly 28 day cycle)
5. January periods was on 19th. February a little brown spotting and then periods started after 2 days (13th Feb)
6. In March, i identified my ovulation....it was around end of feb because of the secretion.... and Yes, sometimes they are brown. around 1st march, some more brown secretions came and a cherry like jelly as well a couple of very narrow red strand outlet as well. and I felt that system was cleaning up old remnants.... it subsided in a day or 2. seen mostly when i would clean up after toilet. Lower stomach a slight discomfort was also there similar to when periods would come. then they all subsided.
7. Now on 9th, no sign of period yet. Hopefully they will come this week.
8. Middle 2 days had missed taking thyronom.
My questions are -
Would glycomet be the cause?
Should I be calm and let this be as there are no other issues.
am i worrying prematurely? :)
Can I continue with glycomet? Need to lose weight....
Thank you,
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Glycomet do not leads to such side effects
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Welcome again.
Glycomet do not leads to such irregular spotting.
I will suggest you not to worry and wait patiently for the periods.
You should also get your thyroid hormone levels tested as hypothyroidism also leads to weight gain and irregular periods.
You can continue glycomet, however regular exercise and controlled diet will help you loose weight.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thank you very much for your guidance. In Aug. my thyroid levels were fine. Will have them checked once more.
