What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge After Unprotected Sex?
Question: Hi I had unprotected sex during my ovulation period. I had brownish discharge the next day. I had a morning after pill 48 hours after sex. There was more discharge after taking the pill and a dull lower abdomen pain for a day. After this all symptoms have gone. I am afraid I might have had implantation bleeding and the pill has not worked. I am also concerned about any STDs I may have contracted which do not show any symptoms (like chlamydia, gonorrea) Please help.

1) Unprotected sex during ovulation time has HIGH chance of being pregnant. However, you took morning after pill after 48 hrs which gives protection around 58% against unwanted pregnancy.
2) Implantation occurs 5 to 7 days after fertilization. Therefore, it is TOO EARLY (next day after sex) for implantation bleeding (though it is brown discharge).
3) Pelvic infection, ovulation bleeding, effect of morning after pill, hormonal imbalance etc can lead to brown colored discharge. Maintain genital hygiene.
4) I suggest you to undergo one blood test for beta-hCG 10 days after ovulation or soon after missed period to rule out conception.
5) Asymptomatic STD can be ruled out through complete STD profile and urine culture. Kindly, consult with your doctor regarding this.
