Question: hi,I am 27 years old, I have pcos.my doc prescribed me Glycomet 500mg,aldactone 100mg ,and krimson 35mg medicine for three months. Started Krimson35 from 2nd day of my last period (jan22) other medicines taking regularly. After completing 17th krimson tablet when I went to toilet i see a brownish mucus/brown discharge. Now Completed(Feb12) full krimson strips then , still brown color discharge coming out whenever i urinate .Yesterday (Feb 15) I felt full body pain, I thought I’m getting my actual period...I saw red discharge as well as brown mucus/discharge.but I’m not getting bleeding. My question is
1. what the brownish mucus means ?

2. Is this period that I am having now?

3. when do i want to start my 2nd krimson medicine cycle? (actually my doc told take 2nd phase of krimson from 2nd day of period)
4. when i my actual period?

plz note:im single , not in any physical relationship

Brief Answer:
Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

I have gone through your query and understood the concern.

Here are your answers: 1. The brownish discharge, if issuing from the vagina, is likely to be a breakthrough bleed from the uterus. This can be seen as a side effect of the medication also. This can also be seen when the hormone dose is insufficient.
2. What you are experiencing now cannot be called a period, but yes, it is the withdrawal bleed after the hormone course.
3. As you have not received a proper period, it is better to start the next course after consulting your doctor. In the normal course of events, without the continuous spotting, the next course can be started after a week's gap. It is not the case here, hence the caution.
4. Metropathic cycles are a common feature of PCOD due to undersecretion of progesterone. Correction for a few cycles is needed. In the current scenario, I think your medication needs adjustment of dosage to achieve a proper menstrual cycle.

Please maintain a healthy diet, healthy weight and regular exercise. This helps a lot.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.

Brief Answer:
Depends on the hormone balance achieved.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

Here are your answers:
1. In the usual case, side effects like irregular bleeding and spotting with hormones are seen during the first 2 or 3 months and subside as the body gets adjusted to the altered hormone milieu. In PCOD, the adjustment depends on the hormone balance achieved with medication. A trial and error method of dosage adjustment for a couple of cycles is needed.
2. Please wait for a day or two to see if the bleeding persists/increases. I would insist on a review by your consultant since this is the first cycle.

Hope I have answered your query. Please get back if you need any more information. I will be ready to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
