What Causes Brownish Cloud Around Stool?

Question: When i have a bowel movement it looks normal but after around 10-15 min i have a brownish cloud around my stool and the stool looks as though its changing colour, is that normal?
Brief Answer:
It is normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. The phenomenon of changing colour you seen is most likely due to action of bile. When transit time of stool in intestines is lesser you can see this. This is normal. There is nothing to worry.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
It also seems to happens after a long gap between bowl movements too and only with certain stool types. If there was blood in the stool would that come out as a cloud or just be on the stool?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
If bleeding from lower part then it can be clouded around.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up.
If bleeding in from lower part of intestine then it can be clouded around but will be more reddish in colour. If bleeding from upper part then it can be digested blood which is brownish colour. This usually won't be clouded around.
If there is long gap between bowel movement then it can be due to presence of bacteria or parasites. If there is recurrence of such stools then get a stool routine examination to find out any abnormalities. Parasitic infections like giardia can give improper digested matter which can be clouded around also.

Brief Answer:
If blood then you could see it initially itself.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow up query.
If it is blood most likely you could see it initially itself. If fresh blood then it can stain the water little reddish. But if clotted then it won't stain water. Some internal haemorrhoids can come clotted as well as fresh blood.
Anyhow if it recur then you can get a stool routine examination.
