What Causes Brownish Discoloration On The Tip Of Nail?

I noticed about 2-3months ago that the tip of my nails were turning slightly brown. I was a bit concerned as I have always had impeccable nails. I however paid a visit to my doctor who in turn said there was nothing to worry about since there were no other symptoms attached to this. That I may just be going through a phase in life. Though I am in a good shape of health, it still worries me. Not like the browning has gotten worse, infact sometimes it seems it is slightly lighter than before and sometimes it looks the same as before. I want to know if I should be worried or not.
Can go for further evaluation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
Brown finger nails but without any clinical symptoms is not worrisome finding in routine clinical practice especially when it may fade away by itself,so there is no need to worry much.
Now,to be in more safer side I would suggest you to rule out certain pathological findings.
1) melanoma,kind of skin tumour.
2) Thyroid function tests.
3) Kidney function tests.
4) vitamin D deficiency.
Here,I would advice you to see dermatologist who will take complete medical, clinical inspection and relevant investigations like,
1) skin biopsy
2) Thyroid tests.
3) kidney tests like serum.creatinine
4) serum vitamin D level.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed then treatment can be planned.
Hope this will help you.
Any more query then feel free to ask me.
Regards,
