What Causes Brownish Spotting And Dirty Brown Colour Stain?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: Hi,

This is embarrassing but I'll ask anyway. Yesterday after a long day at work I was getting ready to shower and noticed this brown dirt like substance/particles all over my pantyliner. It looked like I didn't shower of something or skins cells that rubbed off from from my vulva or the sides where my private parts meet my thigh which is significantly darker than the rest of my skin in that area.

I am very meticulous about showering and almost OCD about it so I am pretty certain I take a good shower and clean well down there.

What could this be? Should I be scrubbing more? Is this an infection?

Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
possible ovulatory bleed or breakthrough spotting...explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
The typical brownish spotting and dirty brown colour stain which you saw on your pantyliner could possibly be an ovulation bleed if you are in the mid cycle or it can be breakthrough/ irregular shedding which can happen in cases of stress induced hormonal imbalances, where estrogen tend to go down and endometrium breaks in absence of adequate progesterone in that phase of cycle.
You may wait and watch for the bleeding or spotting to continue , if at all, for next 2 days and if it stops , then its definitely a breakthrough bleed. You really need not do anything about it at present and just maintain a menstrual calendar for next 3 months to check for similar pattern of bleeding if it occurs again.
Stress levels should be reduced with stress busting exercises or yoga and meditation if required, this shall be helpful indeed.
