What Causes Brownish Stringy Discharge In Urine?
Investigations as advised to get an exact diagnosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male / 61 visited the ER last week - Doctor thought of Kidney stone - not conclusive - last few days felt like kidney stones episode - today had a pain and passed brownish / red stringy thing in urine which does not seem to be a stone shaped.
The brownish / red stringy thing in the urine could have been a blood clot. This in turn can be due to a stone in the urinary system or an infection along the way.
I would have liked to know the details of the investigations done.
As also the treatment you must have been given by the Doctor at ER.
Any history of associated illnesses like diabetes or so ?
I would advise in such a situation the following, considering your age.
-Urine:Sample sent for culture and sensitivity, routine and microscopy.
-Blood,: CBC, Kidney functions like urea and creatinine.
-Ultrasonography of the whole abdomen, particularly the genito-urinary system.
These investigations would give sufficient idea about the actual problem.
In addition
IVP= Intravenous Pyelography
CT scan of the abdomen
and other investigations as may be necessary.
An opinion of an Urologist for clinical evaluation, actual physical examination including per-rectal examination for the prostate and seminal vesicles, Cysto-Urethroscopy to visualize the interior.
Treatment with an antibiotic if there is evidence of an infection.
