Posted on Fri, 2 Dec 2016
Question: I had a root canal done end of August, and I keep getting a white bump in one are of my throat. I also have acid reflux. I also have buying on the same side the work was done on my inside of my cheek and throat. The dentist didn't use a dental dam, so I thought it was just irritation. I am a smoker, so I'm scared it's cancer. My ent said it's acid reflux, because he put a camera down my throat. but my dentist said go to an oral surgeon for a biopsy and now I'm scared it's cancer. What does it look like to you? I never had this before my dental work

secondary to irritation, fungal infection, upload the images

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the bump in the throat is concerned it can be secondary to the irritation due to smoking or acid reflux or because of the fungal infection like candidiasis. Nothing to be panic. It might not be a cancerous lesion. Kindly upload the images of the throat region so that I can give you exact diagnosis and treatment plan.

Brief Answer:
mucocele, no need of biopsy or surgery

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query and the image.
As far as the bump in the throat is concerned, it can be a mucocele secondary to trauma or irritation which has occurred secondary to blockage of minor salivary gland. Other than that your throat is absolutely fine. Nothing to worry about cancer or biopsy. It's a self limiting condition. It ruptures by its own. If it increases in size then get it removed surgically. As per now, no need to worry. It does not require any treatment.
You have asked the same query in two platforms, do not waste money.

Brief Answer:
don't apply hydrogen peroxide, do not irritate that area

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.
Just speak to customer care people regarding the application. They will guide you.
Regarding the use of hydrogen peroxide or rubbing, do not do anything it won't harm you nor cause any problem. Rubbing may again irritate that area and again result in formation of the same lesion. Just wait and watch if it increases in size then get it surgically removed.
I hope I have answered your query. If you have any queries reply me back. take care.
