Brief Answer:
mostly harmless normal part of throat

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

The bumps at the back of throat are usually lymphoid follicles which are normal part of throat and usually nothing needs to be done for this.

The usual symptoms if any are foreign body sensation and something sticking in throat.

Antiseptic gargles and good oral hygiene helps. Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole also helps.

If the symptoms don't improve, you need to see an ENT who can decide on the need to cauterize these bumps. Otherwise these are harmless bumps.

Feel free to ask another query.

thank you for the reply,.. i believe you have seen the pictures and the sympthons are understood..

I want to ask this question because i am scared of the complications that may arise as a result of this...

could i be at risk of cancer of the throat, hpv or herpes of the throat(as i have had genital herpes in the past). or could there be any other related issues..

like i said earlier, i have had this bumps for more than 5 months which started with a sore throat.. although they are harmless at first, but i am beginning to worry about the complications..

please advice..

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Do not worry dear.

I have seen the pictures and these are lymphoid follicles and you please follow what I have suggested.

In case these still remain problematic, these can be ablated.

also i have pains in my throat as well, hence why i said it may not be normal

Please relax as the clinical appearance is not suspicious at all. These follicles are normally present and the suggestions which you have quoted in this query stand true butthe worry part is what you yourself has to tackle. A doctor can only reassure.

Please maintain a very good oro dental hygiene. That will help in decreasing the size of these bumps. Also a complete ENT examination to rule out infection in the region will help in keeping these under check.

Your HPV status has nothing to do with these bumps.

could i be at a risk of cancer as a result of lymph in my throat... This might sound like a baseless question but i am trying to be careful and i don't want to be hit unaware..

I have had 3 check ups with ENT doctors from different hospitals and they do not seem to find anything unusual.. hence why i have gone through this medium because i believe you guys may be able to see it from a different angle

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.

You have as much risk of developing cancer as I have or any other normal person has. If you use tobacco, then the chances of cancer will be more.

HPV status can affect the chances of developing cancer but HPV vaccine does not offer protection against head & neck cancers, so nothing can be done for that.
