What Causes Bumps On Beard Area?
Question: Hi Doctor, I am suffering from severe bumps on my beard area, the issue is that the hairs do not grow out normally, it grows internally (in growth) and form bumps, in trying to remove the buried hair with tweezer, it cuts and this later form boil, and pores.
I am really worried as the whole of my beard area is full of big bumps and very painful. A friend recommended bump stopper, I used within 3 days and adverse reactions set in, in the form of very big bumps, which I have never experienced before. Please help

Hello there.Welcome to healthcaremagic.
I am Dr.Senduran,General physician hope to answer your query.
You are probably suffering from pseudofolliculitis barbae commonly called shave or razor bumps(because of reaction to the ingrown or trapped hair.
For this you need low potency corticosteroid cream like fluocinolone to reduce swelling, topical retinoid agents like adapalene and topical or oral antibiotic drug if the bump is infected.
I would advice to visit a nearby dermatologist to get the above or similar kind of prescription. Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries, don't hesitate to ask.Take care.Wish you good health.

Thanks Dr. Senduran,
While I plan to see my Doctor on this or similar prescriptions, may please know if there are permanent solution to this problem, or is it that One is going to be on this medication forever to check pseudofolliculitis barbae. Is there medication that can 'kill' the hair cells such that the hairs dont grow at all let alone resulting in bumps
Some people talk about laser hair remover or something....
Thanks one again doctor.

Brief Answer:
No need for medications forever
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Thank you for the follow up query.
Effective preventive measures would be enough to avoid such recurrences like
1)Using protective razors (foil guarded) or leave the beard to grow.
2)Cosmetic preparations (like veet, magic shave ) are readily available to remove the impacted hairs. Disadvantage being it can cause skin irritation and needs repeated use every few days, temporary aid.
3)Laser hair removal would be a better option to kill the hair cells permanently in expert's hands, requires less maintenance treatment.
There are no medications to kill the hair follicles both safely and effectively.
An expert dermatologist would be well aware of these treatment options.
Hope this information helps you. Take care.
