What Causes Bumpy Red Rash On Legs?

My 13 year old son enjoyed a fun birthday on a slip n slide but afterward developed an itchy red rash all over his body. We treated this with Zyrtec and the swelling and itch would subside a bit but it took a full week for the rash to fade. We thought maybe he has some sort of grass allergy pop up. In the meantime, he had several large mysquito bites on his legs and after the party, those became very red, crusty some oozing and almost looked like lesions. After the rash subsided, these areas did not and have seemed to multiply looking like bumpy red rash leasion areas on his legs. They look as if they could cause scarring. Any thoughts?

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
I understand that your son developed a rash similar to hives which lasted a week and the mosquito bite rash persisted, now has become worse. I saw the photograph you uploaded. The lesions look like eczema. Your son has a sensitive skin.
These lesions need a course of topical steroids. As some of the lesions are oozing you need to combine a topical antibiotic cream as well. Do not clean arms and legs excessively with soap as it takes away skin's oiliness and makes eczema worse. I will advice you to use a good moisturizing cream twice daily over entire hands and feet. After applying moisturising cream mix equal quantity of hydrocortisone cream and neosporin and apply over the patches twice daily. These are OTC medicines. You may continue zyrtec for another week. Usually such rashes won't leave scar once it heals. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid cream. If it is not subsiding in a week's time you might require a mid potent steroid and in that case a consultation with a dermatologist might be required.
Hope this helped,
Take care.
