What Causes Burning Sensation After Application Of Ice On Injured Area?
Please make sure there are no ice burns
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in.
I have read through your query in detail.
As there are no abnormal findings on X rays, fracture is unlikely.
Slight burning after application of ice is not a concern. However, applying too cold ice from the deep freezer directly on the skin can cause ice burns. Icing must be done by placing ice cubes in a cloth towel and wrapping it around the site of injury.
If he has developed the following after icing then it might be a concern
(i)Pins and needles sensation followed by tingling and numbness.
(ii) Redness and pain in the affected skin area.
(iii) Firm or waxy skin which is white and completely numb
(iv) Skin blisters.
(v) Blackening of skin
If the above symptoms of ice burn are not there then there is no concern.
Wishing him a quick recovery.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
