What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination When Smoking Was Resumed After A 6-month Gap?
Question: Hi Doctor,
I used to smoke daily for 3 years continuously upto 4 per day and then I stopped smoking for 6 months. I recently started again and I am experiencing burning sensation while peeing. I had a similar sensation 6 months back and it stopped when I quit. Is it anything serious?

Brief Answer:
Smoking can cause inflammation of bladder mucosa giving rise to dysuria
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There is plenty of research being conducted by various centers to study the relationship between smoking and burning urination but no definite conclusion has been drawn to correlate between smoking and burning urination.
However, it is confirmed scientifically that Nicotine in cigarettes causes inflammation of the bladder mucosa (Cystitis) which causes painful urination.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thank you.
