Question: I have started taking 50 mg of serequil for premenopause symptoms. I have a litthe stinging like burning feeling in my abdomin. on my left side, if I put my hand in between my middle rib cage and my left side bottom rib, I feel a strong pulsating, and it feels hard/stiff. the medicine has helped my hot flashes and night sweats and irritability. I do have a little trouble getting to sleep so far. I have not had a bowel movement for 2 or 3 days. my lower back hurts, but it always hurts. in XXXXXXX of 2015 I had my gallbladder taken out. in September or 2013 I had the gastric sleeve operation. The operation was my choice. The gallbladder operation was not my choice. If I choose symtoms on the Md website, depending on 1 inch on the anatomy map, I either have an aorta aneurism or irritated bouwel symdrom or a medication reaction, the list goes on. please help

Brief Answer:
Menopausal symptoms and side effects of medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Your symptoms suggestive of mixture of menopausal symptoms with side effects of drug.

Seroquel is helping you in some pre menopausal symptoms but constipation and dyspepsia are common side effects of it. Your constipation and lower back pain if happened after starting the drug are likely side effects of seroquel.

Chest and lower abdominal discomfort are likely due to constipation.

For a while I recommend stopping the drug. Use high fiber diet and you can consult your doctor for laxative to relieve your constipation.

You can restart the medicine again under your doctor's guidance with measures to prevent constipation.

If your gastric symptoms are there before starting the drug we need to evaluate for irritable bowel syndrome as you have history of two surgeries for gastrointestinal tract problems.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr Chintan Solanki.
