What Causes Burning Sensation In Leg Post Colorectal Surgery?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: I've been playing detective since colorectal surgery, infection, hernia repair. The colon was put in side of rectum; since that surgery, I have had unanswered pain; I just read about the coccyx have been affected. First, something is pushing in at this site; it restricts movement; when I lift my leg, I feel that area.
Also, when sitting on tailbone, my leg burns. Prior to colorectal surgery and hernia repair, I had none of these issues.

Brief Answer:
can be due to edema around nerve or fibrosis leading to pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Post surgery pain can be due to edema around nerve or fibrosis leading to soreness also.

I will advise you to take strong opiod analgesic and anti edema like Trypsin-chymotrypsin along with neurotropic like gabapentin and methylcobalamine consulting your doctor.

You may need to do MRI spine and sacrum to see for nerve compression

Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS therapy will help to reduce thigh pain.
Local injection shot may help in coccygeal pain if confirmed on clinical examination.

If no relief then epidural injection shot may help which can be taken consulting your orthopaedic doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

My case has been led by me being the detective. For a very long time I have told dr that I have movement right in area of coccyx;,I just happened onto site where a dr from XXXXXXX explains that very few drs address this, but the movement is in exact area. It is hard to differentiate between colorectal surgery ( causing a hernia) pain through transverse/Colin removal) seem explained as trauma dr at Mayo is seeing me based on issues with dr who did hernia repair. Now, could rear ending cause issues w/coccyx? Could SI injection which caused my nerves to fire?
Because I was treated only for Chronic pain even after two surgeries, I have had no relief. The movement in tailbone area - sacrum we know shows inflammation but, the movement issues has not been addressed. When I say pain, it is only God's wanting me around a little longer. Ten mos no provider; but her advice was always opiates. Reading about coccyx and sacrum connection with movement seems like a test should be done before I go to Mayo. After colonoscopy I didn't go back to Army drs as that and SI injection put me close to home. I'm given extra strength from God because I know the pain and I know I was always treated for MVA pain; MRI shows issues after the accident are not there. But, L4, L5, S1 increased abnormalities not addressed. Tangled web but I am determined to find answers. Is SI near coccyx? I had no issues with gastro or abdomen until two surgeries. Lumbar injection - one episode of fecal i continence byr, again, intestines and abdominal wall were beginning of more problems. Is this confusing?
I understand my case is so complex that my question may be hard to understand. I've had painful movement for so long, ignored, and happened on to a video about the coccyx which made sense for part of my pain. Could an SI injection affect the coccyx. Also, I know I have stranding, I believe, anyway, something shows up on sacrum. Does this identify my question a little better. Understand only an X-ray i a certain position will show this. Agree?

Brief Answer:
SI joint injection can lead to pain if damaged nerve supplying coccyx.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Yes this can be post surgery pain due to nerve irritation.

SI joint injection can lead to pain if damaged nerve supplying coccyx.

SI joint is away from coccyx.

I will advise you MRI spine and sacrum .CT scan or EMG-NCV nerve conduction study may be required after clinical examination.
X ray may not show details.

Hope this answers your query.
Wishing you good health.

Take care.

Thank you. I read that an MRI will not show coccyx. I guess there are many different views. Surgery was done two years ago and I was treated with drugs; not a good thing.
Thanks so much! Just hit the answer and I'll rate. Don't want to take up more of your time. Appreciate it.
