What Causes Burning Sensation In Penis?

Was given Azithromycin 2g , 5 tabs of Flagyl and 7 days dose of Doxycycline. Completed the entire dose and felt better.
Few days after completing the dose felt burning in penis and urine and slight wetness.
Went to see a sex specialist.
Tested for hepres, negative. Tested for Gonnoreah and Clamydia negative, VDRL test positive but syphillis specific negative.Burning in penis and urine starts again.
Since yesterday doctor prescribed doxycycline 2 capsules x 10 days and am adviced by doctor that i have NSU.
Please advice.
Continue with Doxycycline + add syp. uriliser

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query.
You have been treated twice for NSU (Non Specific urethritis) at the same visit i.e Azithromycin 2 gm and Doxycycline X 7 days. Either of them alone are usually sufficient to treat Chlamydia and ureaplasma Infection empirically. Flagyl was probably given for trichomoniasis.
Some men may get non-specific urethritis more than once, and for a few men it may become persistent (keep coming back). If this happens, they may be given a second course of antibiotics as in your case i.e Doxycyline 100 mg twice daily for 10 days.
I would also suggest you to take a urinary analgesic e.g Syp Uriliser 2 tsf in a glass of water, thrice daily.
Regards

Thanks for your reply.
Would like to know, is it possible to be VDRL positive and syphillis specific negative. What does this mean exactly.
Forgot to tell you, that doctor gave me metaflam tab, once per day. Will this be OK in place of Uriliser.Instead of Metaflam, please read Meloflam.

Non-specific urethritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
VDRL can be positive even if someone has never had syphilis in the past (confirmed by negative result for specific tests). This may be due to biologic false positive VDRL test result.
Uriliser makes the urine less acidic and thus relieves local burning sensation felt during micturation in cases of urethritis. It is also a urinary anti-infective. You may take it if you have significant burning on micturation

Am not sure if these medicines are just suppressing the bacteria while medication is on... or really killing the bacteria.
Please advice.
Doxycycline is bactericidal
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Doxycycline kills the organisms responsible for NSU (chlamydia and ureaplasma). However, for recurrent urethritis in a few, a repeat course may be required.

Urethritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I think that is due to the underlying urethritis. Normally you should not feel anything like this, but burning sensation, pain during micturation and cooling/soothing sensations etc are all due to underlying inflammation of urethra. Once urethral inflammation is resolved, these feelings should subside on their own. Please continue with the treatment for the total duration advised.
Regards

Burning / pain at Penis tip has reduced. Also burning sensation while urinating has reduced.Sometimes their is an internal feeling of testicle enlargement, physically it does not appear so.
Please advice if treatment is on right track and that after completion of full course of Doxy for 10 days, the symptoms / infection will cease to exist.

You should be fine; treat wife
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Your treatment is on the right track. I suggest you complete the course.
The treatment is according to recommendation and as covered all possibilities of NSU.
Keep your water intake good. Avoid sexual contact with your partner till you are completely fine.
Ideally in case of recurrent urethritis partner should also be treated. You may also give an empirical treatment of a single dose of Azithromycin 1 gm to your wife along with a single dose of 2 gm flagyl (5 tabs of 400 mg) OR flagyl 400 mg twice daily for 5 days.
Regards

Most of the time I feel moistness inside my penis, but no discharge.
Is their any cause to worry.
Recurrent urethritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I don't think there is anything to worry.
Just keep you water intake high.
Get a urine routine microscopy after completing the course of doxycycline.
