What Causes Burning Sensation In The Thigh While On Lactulose?
Question: I have been to the hospital yesterday morning with severe lower back pain and had a diagnosis of a back up of fecal matter (particularly on the right side) due to constipation and was prescribed lactulose and movicol but overnight I started to experience a burning pain down the centre of my right thigh. The pain in my thigh is now so severe that I can barely walk but I want to walk to get my digestion system moving again successfully.

I have gone through the query in detail.From the history that you have mentioned i feel that the severe thigh pain that you have been experiencing is due to nerve inflammation.
The low back pain and this thigh pain seem to be connected. There may be nerve compression in lower back due to prolapse of intervertebral disc. This may be compressing the spinal nerve causing pain in thigh region.
You need to get Xray and MRI of lumbar spine done to confirm the diagnosis.
Use lumbosacral belt,take analgesic tablets and apply local gel to the painful parts.
Hot fomentation may provide you some amount of relief from pain.
Let me know the reports once they are ready.
You can continue taking lactulose with the above medicines.
Once the pain reduces,you can start moving around like before.

Won't the analgesic tablets make the constipation worse?

Hi,
Analgesics can cause gastritis if taken on empty stomach . So take antacids before taking analgesics.
Constipation usually doesn't occur with analgesics.
Take safer analgesics like tramadol,paracetamol or piroxicam.
