Brief Answer:
Could be infection, get urine exam done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thank you for writing in with your concern.

Burning sensation in the urethra is most likely due to an infection.

If you could tell me how long this has been going on and how often do you have to wake up to pass urine in the night, it would help me understand the condition better.

Have you noticed any fever?

How would you describe the urine stream?

Do you have to wait for a few minutes before the urine starts flowing?

Have you had your prostate examined recently?

In my opinion, considering your age, it is most likely a urinary tract infection, probably complicated by urinary retention due to enlarged prostate.

I would suggest you to kindly consult a urologist and get yourself evaluated and also get a urine routine exam, microscopic exam and culture sensitivity test done to rule out infection.

If it is found that there is no infection, then we could think of other eitiologies such as crystals in the urine, concentrated urine etc.

Meanwhile, drink cranberry juice, it will help reduce the burning sensation.

I hope you will find this answer useful, I will guide you further once you write back to me with answers to the questions I have posed above.

Wishing you speedy recovery.

Warm regards
