What Causes Burning Sensation In Vagina During Urination?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Jul 2014
Question: Hi I have been having a burning sensation in my vagina every time I pee, then when I wipe it's very sore and tender, I noticed it looks very red and I have slightly swollen vagina lips. It can also be quiet itchy at times. This has gotten slowly worse over the past couple weeks. I'm 2 months late for my period, but I'm definitely not pregnant, and I was diagnosed and treated for a yeast infection roughly 2 months ago. I was diagnosed with poly cystic ovaries 6 years ago, could it have something to do with that?

Brief Answer:
Need treatment for possible recurrence.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

As per your symptoms, it appears as though your vaginitis has recurred and you could also be suffering from an associated urinary tract infection. Infections of the vagina often recur and need prolonged treatment with a prophylaxis for 3-6 months to prevent further recurrences.

A delay in the menstrual period can happen with pelvic infections and added to that, you have a history of polycystic ovaries that in itself can cause irregular periods.

In the current scenario, you need to visit your consultant for an examination, get a vaginal swab and urinalysis. Please also get your blood sugar estimated as latent or overt diabetes can also predispose to vaginitis.

You need to get treated after investigation if you do not attain regular periods after getting the vaginitis cured. Maintenance of a healthy weight, good diet and regular exercise help a lot in achieving hormonal balance in PCOD.

Hope your query has been answered. Please contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
