What Causes Burning Sensation Of Penis Tip And Frequent Urination?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Hi Dr. Grief, Saturday night my husband stated the end of his penis felt a burn and yesterday he spiked a temperature, I did not have a thermometer but he was very flushed and felt quite hot to my touch. This morning I did get a thermometer and took his temp. 101.2 and he didn't feel as hot as yesterday. He has been drinking a lot of water and he has indicated that when he tries to urinate it takes a second or two and then he is fine. He has been urinating quite frequently and when sitting it is uncomfortable to him (he stated his prostrate is "uncomfortable.) I might add that he has been taking ibuprofen for a shoulder injury and we thought that he has been taking too many and this might have flared things up. I talked to the pharmacist this morning and she stated that it shouldn't cause his temp to spike. Also, he has a low grade headache and when he coughs or moves quickly he feels a sharp pain in his head. He is in good health otherwise and is not on any medications of any kind. He is 62 yrs. young and quite active. We have recently retired and moved so do not have a family Dr. yet. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms likely to be due to Prostatism

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms
Ibuprofen is an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug. It is unlikely to produce these symptoms.

The urinary symptoms of your husband are likely to be due to Prostatism. Every individual starts to have enlargement of prostate after age of 50 years to variable extent. Some patients may have no symptoms, mild, moderate or severe symptoms. Your husband seems to have mild symptoms of Prostate enlargement (Benign hypertrophy of prostate). They are sometimes precipitated by fever or excessive fluid intake.

I would suggest you to get urine examination done to rule out urinary tract infection/Prostatitis as the cause of symptoms. If the urine examination is normal the symptoms are likely to be due to non specific viral infection. Also get a Ultrasound Abdomen for assessment of Renal status , size of prostate and post void residual urine.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
Best Regards
