What Causes Burning Sensation On Penis Tip?
Question: Just relaxing when I had a sudden stinging sensation in penis tip. Lasted 2 or 3 minutes. Now, lingering discomfort.

From your description it sounds like you have had sudden onset of pain in the tip of the penis and now lingering pain. This sounds like you have either a sudden case of urethritis or infection of the bladder, you have a kidney stone that lodged in the urethra or possibly a herpes infection.
Since you have not had prior herpes infections of the penis or genital area it would be unlikely that at your age you would have contracted herpes.
You otherwise sound very healthy for a 74 year old man and that makes the possibility of a kidney stone lodging in the urethra more common.
Do you have blood in your urine or do you notice pain on urination? Any prior history of kidney stones? or bladder infections or prostate infections?
Please report back to me so I can have more information as to the cause of your discomfort.

Regarding your questions, I had a kidney stone episode I'd estimate ten years +/-ago, and it was quite painful. It finally passed after a few days. Nothing else along the lines of your other questions.

From your description and from the lack of other causes I would expect that you have urethritis. This is infection of the urethra and maybe a deeper urinary tract infection.
You will need to see your provider so they may get a urine analysis and possibly a prostrate check as this can also cause urethritis.
Once you have had the tests your doctor may then prescribe an antibiotic.
If your symptoms resolve before you can be seen then you have nothing to worry about but I would still get a urine analysis and prostate check

I had a urine analysis ("strip" and "Culture") last week and both came back negative. Pain and discomfort had ceased for about two days. This afternoon, while sitting watching TV, sudden fairly sharp pain started in usual location and lasted possibly 90 seconds. Since then, lingering discomfort in that region.

Since the UA is all negative then I can only surmise that the problem is an ulceration inside the urethra. I recommend that your urologist perform a cystoscopy to evaluate the urethra for ulcerations.
At this time there is no other treatment other than possible using an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen.
