What Causes Calf Pain And Intermittent Leg Cramps After A Fall?

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I am 67 female. I fell about 3 weeks ago and developed a VERY LARGE swelling on my left hip. Nothing broken but alot of bruising from mid thigh and all of left bum. A smaller version of the swelling is still there. I now have some pain in the calf of my left leg. Hurts to walk or stretch and am having leg cramps intermittantly. Does this need medical attention? Or is it just part of the healing process.

Brief Answer:
You are likely to muscular pain due to fall. Needs rest and analgesic.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You are likely to be having this calf pain due to muscular injury of fall. You need to take rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. As you are also having intermittent cramps you are likely to get benefitted by vitamin and trace elements supplements including calcium and magnesium. However deep vein thrombosis can be excluded by Doppler ultrasound study.
Furthermore the bruise will gradually heal with time.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
