What Causes Canker Sores While Having Stomach Flu?
Question: My three daughters (ages 5, 5, and 4) all recently had a stomach virus. For each, it was 1-2 days of vomiting without fever. Then a few days later, each one got a bad mouth ulcer (looked like a canker sore).
I'm wondering what this might be? The body's reaction to a compromised immune system? Coxsackie virus? Initial herpes infection? Any insights are appreciated.
Also, what should I use to provide comfort for the ulcer pain?
Thanks very much.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to deficiency of B vitamins.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Let me assure you that there is nothing to worry. The children seem to be having the oral ulcers due to deficiency of a B vitamin. Taking Vitamin B supplements for 5-7 days should help in its resolution. I do not think that it is due to some other cause. Also give curd or yogurt. It contains plenty of beneficial bacteria which would replenish the intestinal flora that produce Vitamin B.
You may apply Zytee Lotion or any other anesthetic gel topically over the ulcers. Hopefully they would heal soon.
