What Causes Change In Bowel Movement And Unexplained Weight Loss?

Question: Hi, for last 3 months my bowel movement has changed.
- In the morning, I have little greasy and floating, yellow/brown stool 2/3 times with lots of gases passed. Stool does not smell foul. I do not feel anemic or tired. Stool is passed easily perhaps with no traction.
- Do not feel bloated or gassy rest of the day.Only in morning time gassy. No uneasiness/farting rest of the day.
- But before 2/3 months bowel movement was be like hot dog.2/3 times and no gases.
- I have weight loss of 3/4 pounds in last 6 months. Not sure if it is because of increased summer acclivities running/swimming or because of this.
Can you please tell me, what could has caused my bowel movement / stool pattern change suddenly. With all other conditions described, should it be cause of concern.

Brief Answer:
Good to have stools examined
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Your symptoms are suggestive of an irritable bowel syndrome. However it would be good to have a stool examination done to exclude a protozoal or yeast infection which would produce similar symptoms.
If any infection is found, it has to be treated with medicines.
A wholesome food with less gas forming foods, exercise and stress relief would be helpful. You can continue the yogurt and probiotics as these have helped.
Also medicines like like Mebeverine might help.

Thanks for the reply. Currently, I have appointment scheduled with Gastroenterologist on sept 2nd week. Couldn't get any sooner.
- Do I need to see Gastroenterologist or internal medicine is enough.
- Can you suggest any better OTC available in wallmart/wallgreen in united states. I am trying - Spring Valley Probiotic Multi-Enzyme Digestive. Taking just one at night (instead of 9 /day) and that is helping me.

Brief Answer:
Internist is sufficient for initial work up
Detailed Answer:
You need to see a gastroenterologist only if you plan to have a colonoscopy. An internist would be able to prescribe the tests and the medicine suggested.
