What Causes Change In Size Of The Scrotum?

You need to consult urologist and might require scrotal ultrasound scan
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in details.
There are few conditions when people experience symptoms mentioned by you. It is important to know if the problem is occurring on one side or both sides, at will due to stress like lifting heavy weights or gym workouts or at any time and if you can reduce the size of the scrotum expansion by yourself.
You first need to consult the urologist and get examined clinically. Most of these conditions are benign and can be a small hydrocele or a inguinoscrotal hernia which is reducible.
Once clinically suspected, your condition might require a scrotal ultrasound scan to see for the suspected conditions. Treatment is as per clinical diagnosis made by the urologist and with the help of ultrasound scan reports if done.
Right now I would like you to consult your urologist in a day or two and avoid wearing tight inner clothes or doing gym workouts without scrotal support. Please do not worry.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Thanks for your detailed analysis.
If possible I would like to know the potential cause of this condition.
The scrotum expands and contracts continuously and so I dont quite feel comfortable.
Its not painful but makes it difficult for me to focus on my work.
I havent noticed or felt any lump in abdomen so far.
Also no sign of pain . Could this be related to stress levels?
Hope this helps you analyze my question.
Regards,
Prathamesh
Stress can cause symptoms involving scrotum and penis with discomfort
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
I see 3 to 4 patients on scrotal ultrasound each day and find your symptoms not specific to any particular condition that is commonly seen. Therefore I made a generalized analysis in my previous reply.
Now if you say that the scrotum expands and contracts continuously, I do have conditions like varicocele (blood vessels getting prominent at the root of scrotum) or a small hydrocele. These can be confirmed on doing the ultrasound scan. Since you say there is no lump in abdomen, Im not thinking about a hernia.
Stress is also an important factor in symptoms concerning the scrotum and penis. Many times everything is normal and it is only a little bit of mental stress that make you feel uncomfortable. I have had many patients who have had symptoms purely due to stress.
Since a scan is usually done only after a visit to the urologist and only if necessary, I have suggested you meet your doctors first.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
