Question: I'm 63 year old female only known health problem is PVC's. Recently I've been have a sharp pain just below the breast bone between the breast and down into he stomach area. Thought it might be heartburn but I'm thinking it might not be. This is about the fourth time I've had this since March. Once it was server with cold sweats. There is some vomiting but not much. Since the last attack the pain in the right side and lower abdomen has remained but not severe feels more like sore muscle pain. So what are your thoughts on this. Also thought at one time is was a stomach virus since I had gone to a funeral and 17 other people got sick.

Brief Answer:
Please go in to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Chest pain and pressure with nausea and sweating may be from the heart. It is also possible that it is from gastrointestinal reflux or musculoskeletal strain.

Sharp pain is usually not related to a heart problem - more likely musculoskeletal or gastrointestinal. Nausea with the pain can be gastrointestinal but it can also be from heart problems. Increased pain with twisting or moving the rib cage goes more with musculoskeletal causes. Lower right abdominal pain is more likely gastrointestinal.

Women can have atypical symptoms when they have heart ischemia or heart attacks.

So I advise you to go in to be seen in the ER. It is the only way to sort this out. In the ER they can do an EKG and check cardiac enzymes and cardiac troponin, markers for a heart attack. If that is negative, then it is either gastrointestinal or musculoskeletal. But I think it is important to go in to get this sorted out. It is really the only way to know.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification. But do go in to the ER.
