What Causes Chest Pain When Suffering From Acid Reflex?

Question: My husband has been diagnosed with acid reflex which is causing his chest pain. His antacids and acid reducers help some but my main concern is any, even very small, activities, such as cleaning up in the A. m. (shaving and showering) bring on the chest pains. He can literally do no activities. He also complains that at times it feels like he can't get a breath. Is this simple heartburn or something else?

Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Such symptoms are not caused by acid reflux. Physical activity should not trigger acid reflux symptoms. It is the food which triggers such symptoms.
Chest pain associated with physical activity can be caused by heart issues or by spine problems.
Heart issues cause also pain radiating to the left arm or jaw, shortness of breath, weakness.
Spine problems like spine disc herniation cause back pain and chest pain which is usually sharp.
I suggest your husband to consult cariologist at first. Heart ECG, ultrasound and stress test should be done.
For spine diagnostics, MRI should be done.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
