What Causes Chest Pain While Coughing With Breathing Difficulty?
Question: I hurt what I felt like was a rib 2 weeks ago. I have been experiencing difficulty in breathing, coughing and severe pain at times. I find myself applying pressure to the area so that I can breath. I know that with a cracked or bruised rib there really isn't anything to do. The pain has not lessened as time passes somewhat worse at times.

Pleuritic pain is due to pleurisy (inflammation of pleura). Most common cause for this is lung infection.
So better to first get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection.
If chest x ray is normal than no need to worry.
Musculoskeletal pain can be the cause. So avoid movements causing pain. Start painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Don't worry, you will be alright, first rule out lung infection by chest x ray.
