What Causes Chest Tightness, Breathing Difficulty, Chills, Excessive Sweating, Vomiting And Fatigue?

Question: Hi; I've had a breathing problem for the last 5 months ,
Tightness in the chest in the front and back, short of breath, and I get winded quickly .
Also I had flue like symptoms, chills, sweating and small amount of vomiting, stiff sore, weak feeling
My PCP told me I had costochondritis in July, but here it is December and I still have the problem.
The doctor recommended I have a procedure done called (Arapahoe upper GI )
I, am unsure just what or how that will help. I'm e-mailing because I just don't know what to do. thanks

Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

From your description, I feel that you are suffering from asthma(Chest tightness and shortness of breath). Did you have any pain chest with localized tenderness over ribs-cartilage junction when a diagnosis of costochondritis was made?

Do you suffer from any allergies?

You may try taking a tablet of montair lc, a pan 40 and symbicort inhaler daily for sometime after discussing with your PCP.

Upper GI is recommended in case of reflux disease, gastritis etc as in these conditions there is excess secretion of stomach acid which may worsen symptoms of asthma. That's why I have suggested pan 40 tablet daily.

I do have asthma , bad as a kid but as I got older not so bad, same with allergies
I forgot to tell you I'm taking omeprazole 40 mg, but was before this problem
Also I'm using an inhaler (PROAIR HFA) but it dose not seem to do much good.
My PCP gave me another inhaler (QVAR) but my insurance won't cover it,

" unless I use there home delivery system"

so the pharmacy said it 1 would cost $173 for 8.7g without insurance

Qvar will control symptoms better than proair.

Detailed Answer:

Yes proair will give you only temporary relief. Qvar will control it better. There are many other better inhalers like symbicort, advair diskus etc and aerocort that I suggested earlier. You can find out if either of these are covered by your insurance.
